School Collapse

Ugh! Another tragedy for the Haitian people. By now, many of you have heard reports of the school collapse in Petionville, just outside of Port-au-Prince - there's actually been a number of reports of it on CNN and Fox. Here's an AP article from today with a little more information: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081109/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/cb_haiti_school_collapse

After hearing where the collapse took place, I immediately thought of our friends whom we met on our first trip to Haiti in June 2007. They have since responded to the call they felt to sell everything and move to Haiti to perform mission work. I went to their blog and found that Ken had been at the site much of the afternoon/day right in the thick of it and actually helped save one of the children. Ken's blog is listed on the right under my favorite blogs. It was a horrific sight for anyone to see and everyone involved could use our prayers.

You might be wondering if we were worried about Stevenson, and the answer is "no" because unfortunately, he and the other kids at the orphanage do not attend school so I knew he couldn't be involved. There would be no way for the him to get back and forth from the orphanage to the school and it is too expensive for him to attend. I was, however, concerned to find out what school it was b/c the organization that supports Stevenson's orphanage (Answered Prayers) also has a school.

If you take a look at the article link, I think it gives additional insight as to the conditions of the Haitian government, political environment and state of their infrastructure.

As an FYI - we have still not had any news as to any movement on our paperwork there. Thank you for continuing to check in to the blog. And thank you SO much for your prayers. He's just GOT to come home soon.
