A Disappointing Day....

After waiting quite impatiently for much of the day today without hearing anything from Haiti, I decided to try to contact the U.S. Embassy to see if 1)I'd be lucky enough to get through and 2)I'd be lucky enough to get someone who was willing to help me AND actually have an answer for me.

Well, with no luck by phone, I sent an email asking how the appt went this morning. Late this afternoon I got this response "Dear Mr Reber, We are sorry to inform you that your son did not show up to the interview today. Please, let us know if he will be able to come on May 7, 2009 at 7:30.

Best regards,
Adoption Unit
Merican Embassy
Port au Prince, Haiti "

WHAT?!?!?!?

I'll spare you all the details of what much of the rest of my afternoon and evening looked like, but after many phone calls to anyone we could try to get an answer from, tonight, we understand the orphanage director is taking Stevenson for a Visa appt tomorrow morning at 7:00. We are supposed to hear from her how it went and if the Visa is scheduled to be printed on Thursday. Once we hear that, Tom will probably just fly down even without the Visa printed and take his chances that the printer will work and that it will have ink(!) and that he'll be able to bring him home either Friday or Saturday.

While this may seem hopeful, today really threw me for a loop. I was preparing myself for the possibility of the Visa not being printed for a few days, but NEVER dreamed it wouldn't happen at all.

Tomorrow is a new day. I believe it will happen tomorrow and that my son will be home this weekend. I'm tired of being "paper pregnant", I'm done being in labor and I'm ready for DELIVERY!!

WOW, you are SO close! Do you realize that you're talking less than ONE WEEK! I know you're ready for him.

Richelor got 'accepted' into school for the summer, I think the principle liked the idea of a challenge. :)

So close but so far away from Stevenson.
I hope you'll hear soon better news and that the visa will be there soon.
I wish you all the best and all the luck so you can bring your son soon home this coming weekend.

Oh sooo very sorry!
I am keeping you all in my prayers and hope that your next post is one about Tom's trip to Haiti! (or photos of Stevenson at his new home - even better!!!)

Hang in there. It will happen. I called and asked about the printer as I was told it was broken and found out that it was not - someone's tale so if they say the printer is broken call the embassy again and again. I got through. I remember Stevenson from when I was there.
