It was hard for me to say good-bye, but I didn't want to show her. She barely hugged and kissed me - I don't know if she was just distracted by the kids or if it was her defense mechanism kicking in.
So, off to the airport. Everything went smoothly with check-in and security. Dak was intrigued by it all and said the security check was so much fun! We ate a quick lunch and headed to our gate. As we waited, the anticipation started to get to Dakota and he said he was getting nervous/scared.
As we were boarding, he started to cry. We were talking to him about it and the next thing we knew, one of the pilots appeared next to him. He noticed the tears and asked what was wrong and what he was scared of, etc. A few minutes later, Dakota was in the cockpit meeting the other pilot and getting the full tour and explanation of all the gears and gadgets and safety measures - perfect! Just what he needed.
By the time he made it back to our seats, he was ready to face it head on. We took off, and he clutched the seat, eyes wide open as we hit a few air pockets, and then said "that was it? I like flying!"
He was then determined to have the full experience. He used the bathroom, he thought the little tray table was the coolest thing, and couldn't believe he could listen to his own music ont he ear buds I had brought for him. But the kicker was when the flight attendant came and asked him what he'd like to drink. He ordered his orange juice, sat back, took a sip, looked at me, and said "this is paradise, Mom". I concluded we were going to be ok with this flying after all...
.We had our layover in St. Louis and then landed in Miami at 7:00pm and off to the hotel. Everything going smoothly and our little traveler wanted more....

Way to go, Dakota! I can't wait until Stevenson is in our couch photo, along with Iris and Dakota. Have a safe trip home. Hope to see you soon!
